Modalities

Modalities are the methods used in your session to best meet your needs.

manual lymphatic drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage technique that stimulates the lymphatic system to reduce swelling, inflammation, and fluid retention. The lymphatic system plays a very important role in maintaining your overall health as it is connected to all of the other systems in the body. It is often called the body's “sewer” system, as it filters and removes waste, thus supporting overall health and energy. When functioning well, it promotes clarity, energy, and well-being. If congested, it can cause bloating, fatigue, headaches, pain, and anxiety. MLD helps restore fluid balance and reduce puffiness and edema by promoting proper lymph flow in addition to aiding pre and post surgical recovery.

cupping therapy

Cupping Therapy is an ancient Chinese technique that uses suction to create negative pressure, lifting tissue layers to improve blood and lymph flow, releasing fascial tension, and loosening adhesions. A vacuum is created inside a cup placed on the skin, thus drawing the tissue upward. This technique targets deeper layers of tissue, which enhances circulation, relieves pain and inflammation, and increases blood and lymph flow to the skin and muscles in ways not possible with standard massage alone. Temporary marks may appear and will go away over time.

gua sha / IASTM

Gua Sha / Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) are techniques that use metal or stone tools to relieve pain, tension, and fluid buildup by addressing soft tissue dysfunction. IASTM, a modern form of Gua Sha, targets musculoskeletal issues by detecting and treating fascial restrictions, fibrosis, and chronic inflammation. Traditional Gua Sha focuses on breaking up stagnant energy (qi) believed to cause inflammation, using scraping motions. When applied with lighter pressure, Gua Sha can also support lymphatic drainage.

myofascial release

Fascial Release Therapy uses gentle, sustained pressure to release and rehydrate restricted connective tissue (fascia). Unlike aggressive methods, this approach works with the body’s natural resistance to sudden force, promoting deeper, longer-lasting relief and improved mobility by addressing the root of tension and restriction.

assisted stretch

Assisted Stretching improves flexibility, corrects muscle imbalances, and supports injury prevention and recovery. Stress and modern lifestyles, including sedentary habits, can increase muscle tension, limit mobility, and impact posture. Assisted stretching helps restore proper muscle tone, enhance range of motion, and promote more efficient, pain-free movement.

rapid percussion therapy

Rapid Percussion Therapy uses a specialized massage tool (aka a massage gun) to deliver deep, rhythmic pulses that release muscle tension and move fluids. The therapist adjusts the intensity of the percussion for targeted relief. Though initially intense, the sensation becomes soothing as the tissue releases. This technique effectively breaks up adhesions, improves mobility, and accelerates recovery by enhancing metabolic reactions in the tissue.

oncology massage

Oncology Massage involves gentle techniques like soft tissue manipulation and lymphatic drainage to promote relaxation and help manage cancer-related symptoms. It is generally safe during treatment but should avoid deep pressure, which can worsen pain or fatigue. Always consult your doctor for guidance and any specific precautions before receiving an oncology massage.

intraoral massage

Intraoral Massage targets muscles inside the mouth to relieve tension and referred pain related to TMJD. The therapist uses gloved hands to apply gentle pressure with techniques such as kneading (lifting and rolling the muscle), friction, and stretching. Facial cupping is often combined with this technique for additional relief. This specialized combined approach helps reduce muscle tightness, improve jaw function, and reduce pain.
